Hill 1190 & New Zealand

It’s going to rain tomorrow so I had to squeeze in a quick SOTA summit today with everything else.  It was a beautiful day, perfect for a hike.  I was at an ARES meeting and I had to run some errands, so I didn’t have much time.  There is a summit about 10 miles from my house with a short hike so I zipped over there.  The hill is located in Rancho Bernardo, CA just north of me and I’ve been up there a few times.

I was hoping to catch K6ARK, Adam on his summit to get a little summit to summit.  I actually contacted him yesterday on Thomas Mtn (W6/CT-016) and was able to get a summit-to-summit with Adam and K6HZR.  That was cool.

I worked mainly CW stations (morse code) today.  I still don’t feel like my skill in that area is getting any better.  I think I just need to get on the radio more rather than the computer.  I’m definitely better now than a month ago.

I’d say my highlight for the day was getting a New Zealand contact, ZL1BYZ for the first time on CW and only using 10 watts.  I’ve talked to John before on side band but never via CW.  Very cool!

As usual, I’m looking forward to my next outing on a mountain top.
