2020-12-13 Elsinore HP

This is always a fun little hike but not so much on the drive just because it’s kinda long and boring.  I had the option of Sitton or this one and I felt lazy so I went for the shorter hike today.  At times there will be a little water in the area but not today.

After making a nice late from the machine, I headed out for the 1+ hour drive up by lake Elsinore.

I missed the turn as usual as I followed a very nice trail that take you on a scenic trail toward Sitton Pk.  I passed some horse hikers on the way up but no one else.  It was a peaceful hike even though the parking lot had a few cars in it.  This is most likely because I got an early start.

Given the proximity to LA, activating with 2m is pretty easy.  I was hoping to get a summit-to-summit with N3XUL who was on Laguna Benchmark which would give me the complete.  It turned out to be an easy contact.  He uses a Yagi but I worked him with my MFJ 2m whip and he had his small attached antenna on.

Parts of the area were very picturesque given the gold oak leaves littering the path.  On the way back I passed a few more people enjoying the nice weather.  The way back lacks any sense of adventure and always seems a bit longer.  After I got back I heard that a mountain lion was in the area following hikers.  I guess I didn’t look that appetizing.

I worked a total of 6 stations on 2m FM and 30 on CW with a couple of SSB stations in the mix today.  It was a good haul of contacts and a beautiful day.
